Aquaculture Technical Assistance and Outreach - Delaware State University Cooperative Extension
Delaware State University Cooperative Extension would like to extend an invitation for you to participate in a workshop series being offered through the Aquaculture Technical Assistance and Outreach Program this summer.
Aquaculture 101
Come join the Delaware State University Aquaculture Research & Demonstration Facility as we explore aquaculture, the farming of aquatic organisms. The primary goal of the Aquaculture 101 workshop series is to help new and prospective aquaculturists gain the practical knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in aquaculture. Each of the three workshops will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about aquaculture through hands-on, interactive activities. Three workshops will be offered. Details on each is included below:
1. Stocking
Date: May 20, 2010
Time: 4 to 6 PM
You cannot manage a pond optimally if you don’t know what’s in it. This event will teach participants proper methods of fish handling, counting and stocking.
2. Feeding
Date: June 8, 2010
Time: 4 to 6 PM
Ensuring that your fish have enough of the right kind of food is critical to maintain their growth. Learn to sample your fish, to calculate feed rates and feed conversion ratios.
3. Water Quality
Date: August 11, 2010
Time: 4 to 6 PM
Learn the basics of water quality testing and the important role this plays in keeping your fish healthy.
REGISTRATION:
Come and join us for one or all of the classes. Remember, these are designed to be ‘hands-on’ so there is a good chance you may get wet and/or dirty by participating, so please plan accordingly. New Seafood HACCP Alliance Internet Training Course
The Seafood HACCP Alliance has provided training for the seafood industry and federal and state regulators in connection with the Seafood HACCP Regulation. The process has been face-to-face training, which was efficient because of the large numbers of people to be trained and the fact that the trainers were stationed where the training needs were. Currently there is only sporadic need for such training and usually for only a couple people at a time. To respond to this change, the Alliance has developed a web-based training course that replaces the first two of the three-day training. It is now available for on-line use. The attached flier describes the course. It is recommended for firms that are just starting out or have lost their HACCP trained individual, as well as for new FDA and state regulators.
