NYSDEC Closure

Rescinded Closure

The NYSDEC has rescinded the temporary emergency closure of the normally certified portions of Oyster Bay Harbor that went into effect on July 13, 2012.  The reopening does not apply to oysters.  The rescission is effective at sunrise on Saturday, August 4.

The normally certified areas in Oyster Bay Harbor remain closed for the harvest of oysters.

A map showing the affected areas is available on the DEC website.

NYSDEC Closure

NYSDEC implemented a temporary closure of Oyster Bay Harbor effective at sunrise on Friday July 13, 2012.  The closure was implemented following reports of 3 illnesses in New York and 5 illnesses in 3 other states (MO, MI and NJ) traceable to Oyster Bay Harbor.

NYSDEC has advised shellfish dealers in NYS who handle product from that area to implement a recall of all shellfish harvested in Oyster Bay Harbor from June 1 through July 12.  You may contact NYSDEC' Shellfish Inspection Unit at 631 444-0494 for more information.

The closure map shows the area that has been closed.  This map will be posted on the NYSDEC website at  http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7765.html  later today.
